Power System / Arc Flash Studies
In 1992, J.R Stephenson determined that there was a need in the regional market to provide comprehensive protective device coordination and short circuit studies for commercial/industrial/government/institution facilities. In 2006, Arc Flash study service was added to our offering as part of the latest industry requirements for new and existing electrical installation. SKM System Analysis Power Tools software (CAPTOR/A-FAULT/Arc Flash modules) is used to perform these studies.

J.R Stephenson has supplied hundreds of studies since 1992. Some of the notable local projects are:
- Federal Disease Control Centre - Winnipeg
- Manitoba Hydro SCADA Control Centre - Winnipeg
- The Health Sciences Centre Central Energy Centre - Winnipeg
- South End Water Pollution Control Centre - Winnipeg
- Critical Services Rehabilitation Hospital - Winnipeg
- The General Hospital Electrical Distribution Upgrade - Winnipeg
- Killarney Arena - Winnipeg
Over the years, testing and research work has advanced the switchgear technology, resulting in new safety standards and requirements. The new requirements include marking electrical equipment to notify the operator of potential hazards and use of proper personal protection equipment. In 2008, Arc Flash study service was added to our offering as part of the latest industry requirements for new and existing electrical installation. The study is computer generated by JR Stephenson Mfg. Ltd. to the guidelines established in IEEE standard 1584-2002/2004a utilizing "Arc Flash Evaluation" module by SKM Systems software. A summary of incident energies at certain working distances and required protective FR clothing categories are provided in the report for all busses studied as depicted in the sample single line below:
